Since horseback riding is one of the main activities of Camp Strawderman, all campers are encouraged to take advantage of the unusual opportunity of good instruction, well-kept horses, and beautiful mountain trails. Riders are grouped according to ability with classes in beginning, intermediate and advanced equitation. |
In addition to equitation on the flat, campers may receive instruction over fences. There are also morning and afternoon trail rides, including the cavalry, an advanced ride, which goes out at six in the morning to patrol the outlying trails of Fort Strawderman. |

Campers over 10 years old have the opportunity to learn grooming and horse care. Shows at the end of each two-week session give the girls the opportunity to display their horsemanship before qualified judges. |
